When we first crafted the idea of the idea of MongoHQ over two years ago, it was the famous “scratch your own itch” problem. As we created applications for our Rails consultancy and were learning about and enjoying the use of this new database technology in our projects, we found it hard to easily create databases for these applications without having to exert a lot of effort.
With our background creating software as a service, we were intrigued at the future of a data layer that could be offered to developers, allowing them to focus on their code instead of having to worry about their data. With that, we created MongoHQ, the first DBaaS (Database as a Service) of its kind.
We built MongoHQ because we loved MongoDB as a technology and believe that besides the feature advantages it offers, it is enjoyable to work with and makes developers' lives easier. We want to do the same for you.

MongoHQ is a Y Combinator funded and guided company. We were founded in Fall 2010 and were part of the Summer 2011 Y Combinator class.
